Ideas: Commercial Homes?
Like me, you've probably come across lots of articles focused on the many ways our professional and personal lines have been blurred since the pandemic hit. We've seen hundreds of ways to 'successfully' incorporate our work in our homes, but I hadn't considered this genius idea: Incorporating our homes in the workplace.
Some people out there have been purchasing old commercial lots and turning them into multi-use spaces that include retail, offices, studios, and out-of-the-box living quarters.
Artist duo Nick Cave and Bob Faust purchased a 1920s industrial workshop in Chicago and turned it into a gallery/studio/shop/loft. Another artist, Klari Reis, did a similar, smaller scale, work/live hub in San Francisco, and even managed to create sun-filled courtyards and a rooftop!
Please take a look at these examples and let your imagination run wild. If you're lucky, maybe can finally own a piece of property that fits everything you need. Talk about cost-efficiency!
DIY: Easy Feng-Shui
Now that you've probably already Marie Kondoe-d your home (and if you haven't, you should), its time to one-up it with some Feng Shui.
This ancient Chinese practice, which is actually very scientific, is meant to introduce positive energy (or Chi) into your space. The goal being for you to feel energized, at peace, and in synchrony with your surroundings.
Although you could use the help of an expert for a more in-depth study, which really varies on your home's location and architecture, there are some easy ways you can make sure you add some Feng to your Shui. Follow these steps right here.
Trends: It’s official, the 80s have come full-circle.
I honestly never expected the 80s to make such a comeback, yet here we are. Even glass blocks are having their moment.
These translucent bricks are actually pretty convenient. They are inexpensive and easy to install. They simultaneously provide maximum light and privacy. They're great insulators and energy-efficient. This cute little article can tell you a bit more if you're feeling curious.
If you're not that excited, just take a look at this entire home expansion built with the puppies. Whoever my next client is: Expect some glass bricks!

Chic Living: Nancy and Bruce Newberg’s L.A. Residence
Jewelry-maker Nancy Newberg enlisted her long-time interior designer Kathryn Ireland to create her new home for a new, more adult chapter in her and her husband's life.
Together, they wanted the Spanish-style home to channel a more restrained aesthetic, in the veins of Axel Vervoordt, and decided to team up with the modernist architect Marmol Radziner to help them achieve it.
The result was a minimal yet rich approach to design, highlighting both the colonial era from the home and the modern couple that lives in it almost seamlessly.
