Item of the Week: Drill Vases by Erik Olovsson
Part chaos, part control. These vases are improvised from small fragments of discarded marbles from Carrara quarries, which the designer collected.
Worked solely by hand and hammer, the marble rocks are drilled to form an opening to fit the hand-blown glass vases. The geometry of the glass provides a sense of order and control, while the marble adds spontaneity and chaos.
Side note: This concept is actually very apropos of our times, in the sense that we should take advantage of less-than-ideal situations to actually create meaningful and beautiful things.

A Design Lesson: Principe Real Apartment
This tiny apartment not only looks HUGE, but is also extremely spacious and efficient. Designed by the Portuguese firm Aurora Arquitectos, it displays an enormous amount of creativity and knowledge.
It just shows how good design can go a long way and, even if minimalism isn't your mood, just seeing how these spaces are maximized will inspire you.
Chic Living: Maggie Gyllenhaal's Brooklyn Home
Maggie has always been goals, and her cozy apartment, which she shares with her mega-talented husband, Peter Sarsgaard, is a perfect reflection of that. Their interiors reflect an elevated eye for design in an understated, unpretentious kind of way.
Her chic brownstone screams for both curling up and reading a book, or hosting creativity-fueled get-togethers. Their aesthetic is also highly achievable for common folks, which is what makes it a winner in our hearts.
Aaand, just in case you were looking for a nice, cool, breezy-mood, 4th of July weekend playlist, we GOT the perfect one.
Until next week :-)
